Zero Energy Building

An energy efficient building that is not connected to the grid. It is a self-sufficient building that is able to generate all the energy it needs onsite using only renewables. This is very hard to achieve in Mauritius, or anywhere, since the building would have to be designed to account for long periods of no energy generations. For example, if the main source of renewable energy was solar and there was a cyclone, the building would be running on batteries. As the batteries get larger, they become very expensive. The payback period for such a system would be prohibitive.
