Hemdeep Dulthummon

Hemdeep Dulthummon

Co-Founder & Director of Business Development

Hemdeep Dulthummon graduated from the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at the University of Mississippi with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 2011 and is certified as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) by the Mississippi Board of Licensure.

He is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and as a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) by the American Society of Quality (ASQ).

Hemdeep has experienced a startup environment as a Process and Manufacturing Engineering intern at Twin Creeks Technologies, LLC, a solar cell manufacturing company. Hemdeep has over 10 years of technical project leadership with a focus on automation and robotics. He has worked with Toyota, Honda, Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer on automation projects.

Furthermore, Hemdeep has a background in marketing, especially internet marketing; operations management; and business development. Hemdeep is currently a board member for Appropriate Technology Collaborative (ATC), a non-profit that creates new sustainable technologies that promote economic growth and improve the quality of life for low income people worldwide. Hemdeep is also a co-founder and is on the board of directors for Black Young Professionals (BYP) of Metro Detroit.

Mahendra Gooroochurn

Co-Founder & Technical Program Manager

Dr Gooroochurn holds a doctorate in Mechatronics from Loughborough University, UK, and is a LEED Accredited Professional in Green Building Design and Construction (LEED AP BD+C), with experience in green building design, documentation and administration for certification.

He has worked on several building energy modelling and dynamic simulation projects for documenting compliance with LEED and Estidama frameworks, including life cycle costing analysis of green measures.

He has worked on UNDP projects related to investigating sustainability principles for residential and non-residential buildings in Mauritius and for devising an energy audit management scheme for Mauritius. He has experience with energy auditing and energy management projects for commercial buildings, and has a keen interest for automation solutions for sustainable development, as well as data analytics and machine learning.

John Barrie

John Barrie is Founder and the Chief Innovation Officer of the Appropriate Technology Collaborative (ATC), an award-winning nonprofit company that designs affordable, sustainable, technologies that provide opportunity for the world’s poorest people. Mr. Barrie is an Architect and Industrial Designer; he has also been an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Michigan. Mr. Barrie works with groups of professionals, students and volunteers from around the globe to develop new programs and technologies for people in less economically developed countries.

John is co-founder of Mayan Power and Light, a program in Guatemala that teaches Mayan women about electricity, circuits and solar power, and creates woman owned social venture businesses. In 2019 Mayan Power and Light won the Energy Globe Award for Sustainability. The Energy Globe is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide, honoring projects presenting sustainable solutions to climate change.

In 2016 Mayan Power and Light was recognized as a “Sustainia 100”, one of the top 100 sustainable enterprises world-wide by the United Nations Compact for Sustainable Development.

Mr. Barrie and ATC have designed over a dozen new appropriate technologies that are available for free online. ATC technology designs have been downloaded over 7,500 times by people and nonprofits from 43 countries.

John Barrie conducts interactive workshops on sustainable appropriate technologies, social enterprise and program development for nonprofits working in low income communities.
